Start with GRATITUDE…

This blog post is an adaptation of the very first email I sent out to my mailing list on December 1st, 2017.

Today I am writing to you all, filled with so much gratitude.

Not because of a timed response to a date on the calendar, but because I am deeply grateful for the path that has opened up to me in my creative life in the last months... and years.

From the first show of my 'new paintings' in 2010 in West Seattle not long after I moved to the USA, many things have happened, as things do with the march of time.

The most consistent source of comfort has been people, my family, and friends, my tribe of folks who have had many long conversations about life. And art. My constant muse, who has insisted that I break away from my need to make meaning out of representational painting, and become the artist I am meant to be. A colorist. And abstract expressionist.

But muses are wiley beasts, they insist on breaking away from old things, and then just as soon as you're used to one thing, they insist on an old thing again.

So, I spent three years learning about Classical Realism in a Part-time Atelier Class at Georgetown Atelier under the tutelage of my friend and teacher Holly White-Gehrt.

And so it is that since coming to the USA almost 8.5 years ago, I have had to let go of many things, and embrace many others. And it all has made me a better, more understanding, well-rounded artist and person.

And wow, I am grateful. For these eyes that see, and these muses that prod and all the human angels I have met who encourage, cajole and cheer!

Thank you for all your support, all you patrons and human angels who have walked beside me to this place... I am elated!

Come help me Celebrate my very first Open Studio!
