In "August Suite" Booyens takes the reader through a cleansing journey of pain, bitterness, and letting go.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms...”

— Henry David Thoreau

To express, wring out the sweat from the towel of life, to suck out the marrow of life...

There’s so much of the world that most people don’t see. When you do see it, it can be difficult to highlight compassion and humor in those moments. It’s natural to want to experience life beyond your scope and expand your view. Nurture your curiosity about human connection through my writing.

In my writing, I explore a hidden connection between the reader and the subject of my writing. It comments on the human condition. Connects my experience as the writer with those that I write about through the act of witnessing their lives within mine.

In my short stories, I share both the sad and the bad. I bring to the surface some of the more under-told stories, bringing to light some of those characters who might dwell out of sight of our neat little lives.

My poetry is about my own experience in the world. Creating images of broken, difficult or strained connections. An exploration of MY inner landscape, sometimes a reforming of the landscape in order to reconcile what is in the past in order to keep living in a future I am not only participating in, but creating by LIVING out loud and on/with purpose

I’m exploring memoir-writing and hope to share that with the world in the future.
